Chimamanda expressed those words so beautifully. We are all guilty of perpetuating the single story and it happens so easily. Berta you might consider a new blog on that subject.

Very beautifully expressed and you are so right. I visited a nursery in Santa Cruz yesterday and the owners’ garden is so wonderful. The new header of my blog comes from that garden.

“when I read the press or listen to Trinis the impression is mainly of a badly governed crime filled country”. That is what Chimamanda Adiche means when she speaks about the “Danger of the single story”. I do recommend that people listen to this using this link.

Thanks for reminding us of the beauty of Trinidad and Tobago.
While the creativity of the people is evident, when I read the press or listen to Trinis the impression is mainly of a badly governed crime filled country.
This beauty is also essentially what Trinidad represents for me. The grace that you have captured here reminds me that ultimately there is a Divine force which is perfect, ordered timeless and in charge. The hills are majestic, the sun rises and sets, the wind blows, the newborn babies announce their presence and the old say goodbye, the birds fly gracefully, the fish jump and the beautiful flowers bloom.
